The Journey of a Small Business
As I've pondered our marketing efforts over the last several weeks, it becomes so tempting to try to do more, attract more types of customers, to get more revenue in the door. I know we could try to do this - get a program for seniors, attract high school swim teams with a special program, get women in the door of our "Men's Personal Training Gym." Its tempting.
Then I ran across this blog from Seth Godin, one of the great small business bloggers out there.
The line that really hit me is this: "If you have to compromise what you do just to keep doing it, what's the point?"
He's nailed it. I don't ever want to see a picture of our Athletic Nation gym with a banner advertising "Lottery tickets For Sale", or "24 Hour Fitness". That isn't what we do. As Seth says, we have a chance for greatness - why compromise?
